Investing in Health – Tackling Inequalities (2004
- 2005)
Following an internal review and a consideration of
the views of the participants from the Equity in Health
- Tackling Inequalities our first programme was followed
in 2004 - 05 by ‘Investing in Health – Tackling
Inequalities’. This programme introduced
a more direct focus on implementing Investing for Health
targets and was targeted at senior middle management
staff.
Both programmes were completed by approximately 40
professionals from various backgrounds and the programmes
were also accredited through the Open College Network.
Tacking
Inequalities: Equity in Health (2002-2003)
The training programmes we provide aim to build capacity
within organisations to support them to promote and
adopt a health development approach within organisational
policies and actions. The training also has a
key role in increasing understanding of public health
issues and now provides support in the implementation
of the public health strategy Investing for Health.
We initiated the first training programme, Equity
in Health, Tackling Inequalities in 2002-03 in response
to partner organisations need to increase their understanding
on the area of inequalities in health. The programme
was aimed at senior officers within government departments,
public sector bodies, and the voluntary and community
sector. Key experts from England, Scotland and
from many of the European Healthy Cities as well as
senior officals within the Northern Ireland government
contributed to the first programme. The key subject
areas covered included:
- Understanding Inequalities in Health
- Monitoring and Evaluation
- Health Impact Assessment (HIA)
- Justification and Appraisal of HIA
- Current Research & Key Indicators of Inequalities
in Health
- Creative Consultation
- Partnership Working
A number of publications resulted from the first programme:
