Training Day 4 looked at how the two areas of housing and health are interlinked. The day was facilitated by Kieran Walsh, Director, Open Door Housing Association. ![]() Speakers included John McPeake, Director Design & Property Services, NIHE who presented an historical context of housing and its contribution to health. Robin Hawe, Area Planner, NIHE focused on current housing needs within Northern Ireland. An insight into the current housing market and trends was given by Tom McClelland from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. Chris Carvill from the Carvill Group outlined housing issues from a private developers perspective. Pat Austin, Director, National Energy Action focused on fuel poverty and the impact of investment in fuel poverty. Presentations were brought to a close by Brian Barry, Co-Director, OPMS, Belfast Health & Social Care Trust who spoke about living conditions for vulnerable groups and health equity. Day four's site visits included Stella Maris, support for long term street drinkers; Larche, housing for people with learning disabilities; Sydenham Court, supporting people with dementia and Millburn close, which supports people with mental health issues.
