Healthy Environments:Healthy Lives Training Programme Print E-mail

Belfast Healthy Cities’ first training programme on Healthy environments: healthy lives’ takes place over five days between March – June 2009. The programme builds on previous successful training programmes, and he work of the World Health Organization (WHO)Commission on the Social Determinants of Health.

 

The programme aims to: 

  • strengthen understanding of the concept of healthy urban planning, and how the built environment can improve health and health equity
  • provide practical experience and innovative ideas, and
  • offer an opportunity to explore how health and health equity can be integrated into  all local policies.

This is a unique opportunity to build knowledge of a rapidly developing, cutting edge field which is being increasingly acknowledged across the political spectrum. 

Programme content: 

All days include a site visit with a series of options that will provide practical evidence and experience relevant to the topic of the day. 

v      Day 1: Introduction to health, planning and sustainable development

v      Day 2: Sustainable communities: Open space and transport

v      Day 3: Regeneration, urban design and liveability

v     Day 4: Housing and health

v      Day 5: Climate change
