Belfast Healthy Cities acted as Secretariat of the WHO European Healthy Cities Network from 2008-2018. The main functions of the role included:
- Lead focal point for all communication and correspondence with WHO Healthy Cities and Healthy City/National Network Coordinators
- Coordination of the designation process in Phase V and Phase VI
- Development of support plans with new cities and new coordinators
- Supporting the development, coordination and monitoring of the joint annual WHO European Healthy Cities Networks conference, sub networks and other committees or task groups, producing technical reports as appropriate.
- Link and advisor between WHO expert advisors and WHO and Sub Network Lead Cities and provide support to develop and monitor sub networks
- Administering and supporting the production of the Annual Reports of each city and national networks and Phase evaluation.
- Supporting Advisory Committee meetings
