Belfast Healthy Cities encourages any organisation working to promote health and address health inequality to apply for the 2018 awards.

Joan Devlin, Chief Executive of Belfast Healthy Cities said today,

‘This is the 6th year of the Heathy Belfast awards and the numbers entering the awards have grown year on year since the beginning. I think that reflects very positively on Belfast as a healthy city and while there is still progress to be made in addressing health inequalities, it is important and appropriate that we celebrate and highlight the significant work which is being carried out by a whole range of organisations large and small, across Belfast to make life healthier and fairer for our communities.

‘I would encourage any organisation, whether it is a large public body or a small community initiative, to consider making an application.’

Joanne Rock, Lagan Dragons founder and Captain, explained the significance of the awards,

“Lagan Dragons were delighted to win the 2017 Belfast Healthy Cities Award for healthy living. Our main aim as a club is to introduce people who have been affected by breast cancer to dragon boat paddling which improves their overall general health and wellbeing. Lagan Dragons are delighted and honouredto be recognised by Belfast Healthy Cities as a leader for the continued effort we put into supporting and empowering our members to be the best they can be.”
