Health Literacy Events and Training

Health Literacy Communication Training for Health Professionals was developed as part of the Intervention Research on Health Literacy for the Ageing Population (IROHLA) programme, led by the University of Groningen in the Netherlands. The programme is developed by health professionals from Italy, Ireland and the Netherlands aimed at developing skills to enhance functional, interactive and critical health literacy.  The programme was piloted with participants in Belfast and Derry and Strabane and the evaluations will inform research and practice on health literacy across Europe.

Introduction to health literacy is a half day workshop developed by Belfast Healthy Cities; it explores the definition of health literacy, the link between health literacy and inequalities and highlights tools and techniques to include health literacy in policy and practice.

Belfast Healthy Cities have hosted a number of capacity building seminars at which speakers from Northern Ireland, Ireland, UK and across Europe have provided examples of health literacy programmes.
