Transport Poverty in Northern Ireland – A Health Equity Perspective: Photo Gallery

On Wednesday 25 June 2025, Belfast Healthy Cities launched its landmark report ‘Transport Poverty in Northern Ireland: A Health Equity Perspective’ at Riddel Hall, Queen’s University Belfast. The event brought together stakeholders from across health, infrastructure, community development and academia to explore the growing evidence around transport poverty and its impact on people’s lives.

We were honoured to welcome Health Minister Mike Nesbitt and Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins to the event, both of whom spoke in support of the report’s recommendations. Their presence reinforced the importance of cross-government collaboration in addressing the root causes of health inequalities, including access to affordable, reliable and safe transport.

The report draws on local research and lived experience to highlight the ways transport poverty restricts access to healthcare, education, employment and community life. It sets out a clear call to action, including the creation of a Strategic Transport Poverty Forum and the integration of Health Impact Assessments into future planning.

This gallery captures key moments from the day including the launch, panel discussions, and the engagement from participants who are passionate about building a fairer, healthier, and more connected Northern Ireland.
